The Objective:
The popularity of eCommerce and home delivery services has caused an increase in waste and materials from packaging. Some considerations include home delivery, takeaway food/drinks, and eCommerce. For packaging, there would need to be a consideration for new and lighter forms for consumer packaging, an improved experience, and a blend of aesthetics and usability/forms. The packaging should also decrease resources used and waste produced.

The Approach:
Create an efficient exchange system for students to acquire reusable, non-plastic food containers. As well as having the machines easily accessible and functioning. The exchange system, system will need to be easily manageable for student workers and the administrative faculty.
Another component of the system would be educating the staff and student workers on sustainability options and procedures. For deliverables, we proposed a new box and return machine with easy transportation, increased return machine locations (shown via RIT Interactive Map below), and other promotional materials.
User Journey & Improvements:
Students are constantly on the move, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be sustainable simultaneously. BoxOut is an eco-friendly, circular system meant to be implemented on campuses while being accessible and easy to manage by student workers and the administrative faculty.
